Commonly known just as Ayu, Ayumi Hamasaki is one of the most popular and influential Japanese pop singers and Japanese idols, considered one of the biggest J-pop stars in the world. She is the highest selling solo artist and female artist in Japan and the 4th highest selling all together (even though she debuted just 7 years ago). Since her debut in 1998 with her first single "poker face", she has sold more than 46 million copies, with the releases of her seven full-length studio albums, one mini-album, two compilation albums, 39 singles, and several non-studio albums, being the fourth Japanese artist with better sales in the history of Japan.

Hikaru Utada was born on January 19th, 1983 in New York to a very musical family. Her mother Junko Utada was a famous Japanese singer during the 70s under the name Keiko Fuji, and her father Teruzane Utada became a music producer after marrying Junko. She was immersed in music from a young age, tagging along with her parents to the recording studio ever since she was a baby. This constant contact with music would later shape the path that Hikaru would take. She began learning the piano at the age of 3, and her love for music steadily increased as the years rolled by. She began listening to a wider variety of music; everything from The Beatles to Led Zeppelin. Her eclectic taste in music would later go on the influence her own musical career.

Namie Amuro (born September 20, 1977) is a Japanese pop singer and Japanese idol originally from Naha, Okinawa, born to a Japanese father and a half Japanese/half Italian mother. Debuting in 1992 in a girl group named Super Monkeys, she struggled to reach the top until the release of "TRY ME ~Watashi wo Shinijite~" in early 1995 which catapulted her into superstardom. Leaving the group the same year and joining forces with top producer Tetsuya Komuro, Namie went on to become a cultural phenomenon. Now after performing for well over a decade, she continues to be one of Japan's biggest pop acts.
